Common Ground Food Co-op Honored as Small Business of the Year

The Champaign County Chamber of Commerce presented Common Ground Food Co-op with the 2008 Small Business of the Year award at the Chamber's Annual Meeting Luncheon on October 3, 2008 at the I Hotel and Conference Center.

 

Small Business of the Year nominees should be a member of Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, and located within Champaign County. Additionally, the business must have been in operation for at least three years. Nominees need to have a solid track record of growth and demonstrated integrity and community involvement. Finally, nominees must meet size standards:

  • Wholesale and Manufacturing: fewer than 500 employees

  • Retail and Service: less than $5 million in annual sales

2009 ATHENA® Award Recipient is Kathleen Holden

The Champaign County Chamber of Commerce has named Kathleen Holden, director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Illinois, recipient of the 2009 ATHENA®  award. Holden was presented the award at a luncheon on February 19, 2009, at the Champaign Country Club.

 

Holden is the 21st recipient of the award locally, which honors individuals who assist other women in reaching their full leadership potential, demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their businesses or professions, and provide valuable service by devoting time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community.

 

The ATHENA® Award program is sponsored by the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce and Worden-Martin, Inc., corporate underwriter for the ATHENA® Award program. The award recipient’s jeweled lapel pin is provided by National City Bank, now a part of PNC.

Champaign County Most Valuable Citizen for 2008 is Carol Scharlau

 

Carol Scharlau was named the 2008 Champaign County Most Valuable Citizen at the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting Luncheon at the I Hotel and Conference Center on October 3, 2008.

 

The Champaign County Most Valuable Citizen Award, instituted by the Chamber in 1992, recognizes an individual’s ongoing commitment to the community and its development – someone who has made a difference.
