DESCRIPTION:LEAD Champaign County is designed to mold young professionals into strong local leaders. Participants will gain confidence\, knowledge\, professionalism and new leadership skills they can bring back to their place of employment. The program is a great way to connect young professionals with their peers and build strong business relationships. The value of establishing a business peer network is beneficial to both the employee and your employer.\n\n\n\nAll sessions will be held in person. Unless otherwise noted\, all sessions will take place at the Chamber office - 303 W. Kirby Ave.\, Champaign. \n\n\n\n\n\nLEAD Champaign County Mission: \n\nAttract and identify the next generation of community leaders in order to grow Champaign County. Connect young professionals with the surrounding community through unique opportunities in the area of service\, leadership\, and advocacy. Engage young professionals to have a vested interest in the success of our community.\n\n\n\n \n\nThe nine-week program will feature speakers each week presenting on a variety of leadership-related topics from the strength finder assessment to leadership management skills and business etiquette.\n\n\n\n\n\nComplete 9-Week Schedule: \n\n\n\nThursday\, August 24\n\n4:30 - 6:30 p.m. \n\nKick-Off Event\n\nPapa Del's - 1201 S Neil St\, Champaign\, IL 61820\n\n\n\nTo kick off LEAD Champaign County\, participants will gather together at Papa Del's to meet and get to know each other better over some pizza and drinks. Participants will be given further additional materials and details about the class. \n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, August 31\n\n9:00 a.m. - NOON\n\nAllerton Challenge Course\n\nAllerton Park & Retreat Center - 515 Old Timber Rd\, Monticello\, IL 61856\n\nParticipants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes\, closed-toed shoes (tennis shoes are best) and bring water if needed. This will be an outdoor\, (light) physical activity. Please plan and dress accordingly. \n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, September 7\n\n8:30 - 10:30 a.m. \n\nGrafton Strength Finder\n\nPresented by Gayle Spencer\, Illinois Leadership Center\n\n\n\nParticipants will complete the Clifton Strengths assessment to uncover their top 5 strengths. Gayle will lead participants through personalized reports to uncover\, unlock and maximize potential. \n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, September 14\n\n8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.\n\nResiliency and Leadership - The Inextricable Link\n\nPresented by Lynne Barnes\, Retired President of Carle Foundation Hospital \n\n\n\nLynne Barnes will discuss the power of being an honorable leader. When you become a role model that people look up to you\, you also increase your credibility and influence. \n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, September 21\n\n8:30 - 10:00 a.m. \n\nLeadership Panel\n\n\n\nHear from local leaders about their path to the leadership roles they currently serve in. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions from local CEO's\, high level managers and local elected officials.\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, September 28\n\n8:30 - 10:30 a.m. \n\nLeadership vs. Management\n\nPresented by Captain Anthony Corapi\, Chief Operating Officer\, High School of St. Thomas More\n\n\n\nLeadership and management are two very different things. Anthony will discuss the differences between the two and how you can become a better leader by understanding the two concepts. \n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, October 5\n\n11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.\n\nEffective Communication in the Workplace\n\nPresented by Jerris Duncan\, Business Coach\n\n\n\nParticipants will discuss the three C's of communication and how they can be used to communicate more effectively in the workplace and beyond. \n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, October 12\n\n8:30 - 10:00 a.m. \n\nBook Discussion\n\n\n\nFacilitated discussion reviewing the book assigned at the beginning of the course. In addition to active participation in the discussion\, a one-page reflection report will be due as well. \n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, October 26\n\n11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.\n\nEtiquette Luncheon & Graduation\n\nI Hotel and Conference Center\n\n\n\nPresented by Patricia Simpson\, Game-Changing Etiquette\n\nParticipants will receive a crash course on the basics of business dining etiquette from Patricia Simpson of Game-Changing Etiquette.
