Mahomet

The village of 9,831 residents prides itself on school systems that attract families to the area, along with a calendar of events and a variety of church, civic and school organizations. Mahomet, sitting about 10 miles northwest of Champaign at the intersection of Interstate 74 and Illinois 47, features an outstanding library; two forest preserves, including the Lakes of the Woods Golf Course; and 10 park locations that offer programs for soccer, basketball, t-ball, baseball, softball and flag football. There’s a variety of other activities for people of all ages. The village boasts the Mahomet-Seymour school system, operating two elementary schools, plus and junior and senior high schools. Top annual attractions include the Mahomet Music Festival, held annually on Main Street downtown on the last Friday and Saturday of August. Besides a variety of musical acts, the event offers a parade, food, vendors, carnival rides and beer gardens. Another event is the Mahomet Soda Fest, featuring the chance to sample more than 100 soda flavors plus entertainment, activities for kids, food and vendors. Mahomet strives to live up to its mission statement: “Provide for the needs of today and prepare for the demands of tomorrow while remaining mindful and respectful of the past.”
