Recreational opportunities abound in this village of 11,825 residents, located about 120 miles south of Chicago along Interstate 57. There are nine parks that offer a fishing lake, playgrounds, picnic areas, ball diamonds and handicap-accessible facilities. The 14,000-square-foot Hap Parker Aquatics Center features a zero-depth entry pool, two water slides, a pavilion, sand volleyball court and concession stand. For campers, the Prairie Pines Campground has 95 lots with water, sewage and electric hookups, plus restrooms, showers and laundry facilities. The Forum Fitness Center is equipped with a weight room, gym, racquetball courts, cardio exercise machines and locker rooms. Fitness classes are offered. The city is served Rantoul Township High School, plus four K-5 schools and one for grades 6-8.
